September 1st, 1919 the library for blind people was founded. There were 200 books, 35 of them were Latvian. P. Eihe and A. Rutkis developed Latvian Braille alphabet. Thus blind and visually impaired people were able to learn in Latvian. Now the school library had a chance to produce Braille books in the native language. At first these books were made by intelligent, unemployed people.  The first Braille publishing company was founded in 1953. Next to the school is the central library for blind and visually impaired people where every student can get classical and modern literature in Braille and audio format. The school is not fully satisfied with this system because sometimes students complain about the lack of some books that are in school programme. We also have collaboration with the local public library. Their employees frequently attend our extracurricular literary activities organized by our librarian Ligita Kūle. Every year we have at least 3 large cultural activities where at least 20 students participate. In 2008 our school was nominated best in the category of informal education group overtaking the French lyceum and we are proud of it. Here are a few examples of our cultural activities:

In 2006 poetic composition by Inga Gaile and meeting with the poet
